HANAHAN, S.C. – Aided by a 2-over 74, University of Miami women’s golf sophomore Rika Park continued to lead the Hurricanes women’s golf team Monday at the Cougar Classic. Miami shot a 13-over 301 in the second round and is tied for 19th overall through 36 holes.
“The girls are hitting it well, just making some rookie mistakes,” head coach Patti Rizzo said. “They will be ok once they get some confidence.”
Behind a second-round 279, Florida overtook first-round leader USC to take a three-stroke advantage at 11-under 565 after 36 holes. USC is second at 8-under 568, followed by Vanderbilt in third at 2-under 574. Virginia and Auburn are tied for fourth at even-par 576.
Park is tied for 35th overall at 2-over 146, just four strokes out of the top 10. Sophomore Leticia Ras-Anderica was the Hurricanes’ low scorer Monday, shaving off three strokes from her first-round tally with a second-round 73. Ras-Anderica moved up 17 spots from Sunday and is tied for 59th overall at 5-over 149.
Christina Ocampo continues to lead Miami’s freshman trio. For the second consecutive round, Ocampo fired a 3-over 75 and is tied for 63rd at 6-over 150. Both Lauren Riehle and Laura Hendee shot second-round 79s to finish the day tied for 110th (12-over 156) and 114th (13-over 157), respectively.
