CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A second day was all freshman Leticia Ras-Anderica needed as she sits one-stroke back of making it through the NCAA Central Regional and into Nationals. The round saw a seven-stroke improvement from Ras-Anderica as she sank six birdies on the day at the Ohio State Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio.
A native of Spain, Ras-Anderica (80-73—153) fired a one-over par 73 and trails Nebraska’s Madeleine Sheils (72-80—152) by a single stroke heading into the last round. Yesterday she struggled on No. 1 off the turn and finished eight-over 80.
“I got my game back today,” said Ras-Anderica. “I learned from my mistakes and I’m excited for tomorrow.”
Second-year head coach Patti Rizzo, in her second trip to regionals, talks about the freshman’s ability to perform under pressure:
“[Ras-Anderica] is an amazing player. She is a tournament golfer not a social golfer and needs pressure to play well.” As far as her play the past two rounds coach Rizzo says “she did well yesterday, just had one bad hole and she did well today.”
Fellow Hurricane Rika Park continues to compete as she carded an eight-over 80 in day two. Managing to par 11 holes and putt a birdie on No. 15. Park heads in to the final 18-holes with a 79-80—159.
Stetson University’s Alex Buelow (72-75—147) leads the six individuals by six swings. The top two of the six individuals will move on to the NCAA Nationals held at the Legends Club of Vanderbilt in Franklin, Tenn., May 22-25.
Overall Southern Cal (first, 298-290—588) widened their lead after firing a two-over 290 in the second round. The Trojans now hold a 12-stroke advantage over Vanderbilt (second, 308-298—600). Virginia (third, 308-296–604), Purdue (fourth, 301-307—608) and Oregon (fifth, 308-300—608) round out the top five.
