CARY, N.C.- The University of Miami’s Anna Bartenstein and Gabriela Mejiaeach advanced into the final round in their respective singles brackets at the Duke Fab-4 Invite after both seniors won quarterfinal and semifinal matches Saturday at the Cary Tennis Center.

Bartenstein – ranked 25th nationally in singles by the ITA – earned a pair of wins against ACC opponents in taking down North Carolina’s Lauren McHale in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 before beating Duke’s 54th-ranked Rachel Kahan, 6-2, 6-4.

Her classmate, 103rd-ranked Gabriela Mejia,made even quicker work of her opponents, beating 67th-ranked Rachael White of Illinois, 6-0, 6-2 and 104th-ranked Hanna Mar of Duke, 6-3, 6-2.

“Anna Bartenstein and Gabriela Mejia are starting this season in the same manner they ended up the last one, playing the intense and aggressive tennis that characterizes Miami,” assistant coach Alex Santossaid. “I have no doubt that they will fight hard for every single point in their respective finals of tomorrow.”

Mejia will face Virginia’s 36th-ranked Emily Fraser in the finals of the ‘Blue’ bracket at 10:30 a.m., while Bartenstein will take on Texas A&M’s 20th-ranked Nazari Urbina at the same time in the ‘White’ bracket.

In consolation play, Melissa Bolivar beat Slater, 7-6 (3), 6-4, but fell to former teammate Kayla Rizzolo (82 ITA rank), 6-1, 6-4. Brittany Dubinsdropped her first consolation match, 6-2, 7-5, to Ole Miss’ 75th-ranked Caroline Rhode-Moe.

“Brittany Dubins and Melissa Bolivardidn’t have the chance to participate last fall for different reasons but they are making the most out of their opportunities right now to improve their games. They have the right mental make-up and with that, success will arrive soon enough.”
