April 23, 2010
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami senior tight end Jimmy Graham was selected on the second day of the 2010 NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Friday. Graham was drafted in the third round as the 95th overall pick of the New Orleans Saints.
“It’s a dream come true to play for the New Orleans Saints,” Graham said. “It’s a team that I have followed and been a fan of for the last 10 years. No other player will be as hardworking or as passionate as I am going to be. I can’t wait for the opportunity to learn under Jeremy Shockey, Drew Brees and head coach Sean Payton. I am so excited and can’t wait to get to work. I give a lot of credit to the coaches at Miami for giving me the chance and preparing me for an opportunity to play in the NFL. I owe them a lot for making this dream come true.”
Graham, a native from Goldsboro, N.C., ranked second on the team in touchdown catches (5) and finished his only year of playing football with 17 catches for 213 yards. He played in all 13 games for the Hurricanes. Graham was a four-year standout on the Hurricanes’ men’s basketball team before the 2009 football season. He was named to the 2009 All-ACC Academic Football Team and the 2007 All-ACC Academic Men’s Basketball Team as a sophomore.
“We’re very excited for Jimmy and his family,” UM head coach Randy Shannon said. “Jimmy is going to be a fine football player at the next level, and we wish him all the best in the NFL.”
