Hurricanes Rowers Compete in First Scrimmage

Miami Beach, Fla. – The University of Miami rowing team took part in its first scrimmage of the 2009 fall season over the weekend, officially marking the debut of first-year head coach Andrew Carter for the Hurricanes as part of the Miami Beach Duals on Oct. 3 in Miami Beach, Fla.

The UM rowing team began fall scrimmages preparing for the upcoming 2009-10 season over the weekend, competing in an organized race with the Miami Beach Rowing Club on the Indian Creek Waterway in nearby Miami Beach.

The Miami Beach Rowing Club crew bested both Hurricanes Varsity 8+ boats over the 2,500-meter course. The MBRC time of 9:22 was just two seconds ahead of UM’s first crew who finished the course in 9:24.

The second crew for UM was third with a time of 9:29.

Miami will continue practices and organized scrimmages until the first official race on Nov. 7-8 when they travel to the Head of the Hooch Regatta hosted by the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga in Chattanooga, Tenn.
