CORAL GABLES, FLA… – The No. 36 University of Miami men’s tennis team plays host to top-ranked Virginia at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on Friday, March 27, at 3 p.m. Admission is free and complimentary pizza will be available for fans.
The Hurricanes have won three-straight ACC contests and bring an 8-6 overall record and 4-1 league mark into Friday’s showdown. All-American Carl Sundberg and David Rosenfeld both own team-best 4-1 marks in conference competition, while the doubles tandem of Christian Blocker and David Simon is 3-1 in the ACC.
Four-time All-American Daniel Vallverdu, ranked No. 29 in the country in the latest ITA poll, is back on track after returning from an injury sustained in the fall. He has won back-to-back matches over ranked opponents and has six wins over ranked opponents in 2008-09.
The No. 1 Cavaliers enter the match undefeated at 20-0 overall and 5-0 in the ACC. The 2008 ACC Champions – who defeated the Hurricanes in the conference title match – boast four top-25 ranked singles players and a pair of top-15 doubles teams. At 8-4 all-time versus the Hurricanes, Virginia is the only ACC team to have a winning record versus Miami.
Following Friday’s challenging match, the Hurricanes return to competition at home versus No. 21 Virginia Tech on Sunday, March 29, at 10 a.m
