CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team is set to play its Second Annual Orange-Green Fall World Series this week at Mark Light Field. The best-of-three intrasquad scrimmage series begins on Wednesday, Nov. 12, followed by game two on Friday and a possible third game on Monday of next week.

Games will be played during the team’s normal practice time, with first pitches expected around 2:30 p.m. each afternoon. Admission is free to the public.

The Orange team will be led by junior Ryan Jackson, sophomore Yasmani Grandal and senior Dave DiNatale while juniors Jason Hagerty, Jonathan Weislow and Kyle Bellamy headline the Green team.

David Gutierrez is slated to start for the Orange team on Wednesday. He will likely be opposed by newcomer Taylor Wulf of the Green squad. Friday’s probable starters are junior John Housey (Orange) and sophomore Iden Nazario (Green).

This year’s Orange-Green Fall World Series marks the second time the Hurricanes have held the best-of-three fall series under UM head coach Jim Morris. Last fall, after dropping the first game of the inaugural series, the Orange team rallied to win two straight games to take the series.

The top two hitters in the 2007 series were Yonder Alonso, who hit .667 (6-for-9) with two home runs and four RBI for the Green team, and Ryan Jackson, who batted .444 (4-for-9) with three RBI and a home run for the Orange team.

Following the series, the Hurricanes will close out their 2008 fall season with the team’s Pro Scout day on Nov. 22 at Mark Light Field.
