The 2008 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam at the University of the Virgin Islands announced today that a few rooms remain at the host hotel during the men’s event in November. Competition begins on Nov. 21 with consecutive-day action culminating in the championship round on Nov. 24.

The award-winning Frenchman’s Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort is the tournament home for teams, the media and the event organizers. Room and ticket packages are available at the resort through Basketball Travelers at http://www.paradisejam.com/pages/m_travelpackage.htm.

The 9th annual U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam Tournament at the University of the Virgin Islands features its most impressive men’s field ever, with four 2008 NCAA Tournament teams in Miami, Wisconsin, Connecticut and San Diego. Although these four NCAA-hardened squads bring high expectations to the islands this November, they will be challenged by the other four teams also seeking early season success. Valparaiso, Southern Mississippi, La Salle and Iona round out the eight-team Paradise Jam field, making it one of the most competitive, neutral court, early season tournaments in America. Two former Paradise Jam champions will return to islands to defend their titles: Wisconsin (2005 Champion) and Miami (2001 Champion). 

The Hurricanes open first-round competition versus Southern Miss on Nov. 21 at 1 p.m. (EST), with the opportunity to play UConn or La Salle in the next round. The four-round tournament concludes with the championship game on Mon., Nov. 24 at 8:30 p.m. All games will be played at the state-of-the-art University of the Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas.
