CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami cross country teams will take part in the 13th Annual Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic Saturday, Oct. 11. The men will run in the 8K race at 7:45 a.m. with the women running on the 5K course at 8:30 a.m.
“Tomorrow’s race is going to show where we are at, on both teams,” said assistant cross country coach Damon Griffiths. “We have both our `A’ teams competing. It will be another test of our fitness level as we head into the conference championships at the beginning of next month.”
The men heading to Orlando this weekend include Andrew Chuplis, Vince Giambanco, Tim Harris, Eric Miller, Patrick O’Donnell, Jules Rosen, Michael Vikund, Matthew Wilson and Ryan Woodlee.
The women will be Kalea Aguon, Anna Bona, Casy Crist, Monika Freiser, Caitlin Knapp, Ena Leufroy, Page Price, Jessica Schaumburg, Emma Steppe and Jackie Sullivan.
There are 63 women’s and 58 men’s collegiate teams that are scheduled to compete.
“There is great competition in this event, with several regionally and nationally ranked teams taking part,” added Griffiths.
The meet will be the last in the state of Florida for each team as they head to North Carolina to take part in the Covered Bridge Open in Boone next weekend. On Saturday, Nov. 1 the teams will return to the Tar Heel state for the ACC Championships.
