“First of all I want to congratulate Arizona. They are an outstanding club, no question about that. They have great pitching and a tough, solid defense. They got that big hit when they needed it.”
“I think our guys played really hard. We hit some balls really hard. Normally they would be out of the park, but they weren’t out of the park tonight and that’s the bottom line.”
“We have a very good club, and I am very confident that we can come back tomorrow and battle these guys.”
On who is pitching tomorrow…
“[Eric] Erickson is pitching tomorrow. We are at a point where we have to win one game at a time. We are going to do whatever we can tomorrow night to win the game, and then we will worry about the next game. If we win the next game I think the momentum changes.”
On Arizona pitching…
“They had great stuff. You can see why those guys were first round draft choices. They threw strikes. They threw off-speed pitches for strikes. They are very talented, no question about that.”
On leaving runners on base…
“We left too many guys on base. We had a lot of opportunities. We hit some balls that normally would go out of the ball park, but didn’t. The wind blew in at Mark Light Field (this season) for the first time in the 15 years that I have been here. But it has been doing it all season, so we should be used to it.”

On late inning catch…
“The wind has been blowing in all year. I put a good bat on it, and I thought it was going to drop, but oh well, it just happens. It’s part of the game.”

“I was trying to work the guy away and the pitch cut back to the middle of the plate, and he capitalized on my mistake.”

On the game…
“Needless to say, that was a great college baseball game. We were very fortunate to have that one big at bat there at the end. It looked like for a while we would be here until two or three in the morning, trying to figure out who was going to score. That was a great one to win and a tough one to lose, and we were very fortunate and got a big hit when we needed it.”
On the bullpen…
“They’ve been pretty consistent for the season. We were missing [Daniel] Schlereth tonight, so I’m not sure about his status physically. He’s got a bit of a strain so we need to get him checked out as soon as we can. So it added a little extra strain on Ryan Perry and Jason Stoffel but they did a marvelous job.”
Jon Gaston
On his hit…“Next pitch came and I got a hold of it pretty good. I have to thank my teammates for getting on base for me. They kept it going so thanks to them.”
On his emotion after his hit…
“Emotionally, it was unreal. It was by far, one of the more exciting home runs ever hit – especially against a great team like Miami and in extra innings. It was an exciting feeling.”
