CORAL GABLES, Fla.- University of Miami head women’s tennis coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews announced today that Bianca Eichkorn and Michaela Kissell have joined the women’s tennis team for the 2007-08 season.

Eichkorn, a native of Tengen, Germany, owns several singles and doubles titles at regional events in Germany, ranking as high as 43rd in the country’s women’s rankings. She also reached the semi-final round of the 2007 ITF Under-18 Tournament. Eichkorn is currently ranked 63rd in Germany.

Kissell, a native of Hostetter, Pa., is a three-time state singles champion in Pennsylvania. During her prep career, she won five National Open singles titles including three at the 18 and under level and two at the 16 and under level. She also teamed with her sister, Joelle, to win a national doubles title at the 18 and under level.

“These young ladies are bringing a wealth of experience to our program,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “They’re excited to help us reach the next level in the collegiate ranks.”

While attending Greater Latrobe High School, Kissell did not lose a single match in her first three seasons before missing her senior campaign with an injury. She also won the 25K Professional Wildcard Tournament in Allentown, Pa. on three different occasions. Kissell has also won two ITA college circuit tournaments.

“I can’t say enough great things about what they have already brought to the table,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “When freshmen are able to step in and push the returnees, we know we’re moving in the right direction.”

In addition to Eichkorn and Kissell, the Hurricanes return five letterwinners for the 2007-08 campaign, including 2006 ITA All-American Laura Vallverdu.
