Collins Invited to USA Basketball U19 World Championship Team Trials

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Rising sophomore forward/center Dwayne Collins of the University of Miami men’s basketball team has accepted an invitation to participate in the USA Basketball U19 World Championship Team Trials held June 28-30 in Dallas, Texas.
Selected to attend the trials by the USA Basketball Men’s Collegiate Committee, Collins, a native of Miami, will be one of 20 players from around the country vying for a roster spot on the USA Basketball U19 Team scheduled to compete at the 2007 FIBA U19 World Championships held July 12-22 in Novi Sad, Serbia.
As a true freshman this past season, Collins ranked second on the UM roster in rebounding (6.5), fifth in scoring (8.6) and third in field goal percentage (.538) while starting 22-of-32 games played. He led the ACC in offensive rebounding (3.3) and recorded five double-doubles on the year which ranked second among all ACC freshmen.
Collins has previous experience with USA Basketball having competed at the 2005 Youth Development Festival in San Diego, Calif.
Trials for the USA U19 World Championship Team will be held at the Dallas Mavericks’ practice facility at AmericanAirlines Arena June 28-30. The selected USA Team finalists will remain for the USA’s July 1-7 training camp, which will also see the USA compete in the 2007 Global Games in Dallas.
