ATHENS G.A. – The University of Miami diving squad completed their second day of competition at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships held at the University of Georgia’s Gabrielsen Natatorium Saturday afternoon. Junior Jenna Dreyer qualified for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships for the second day, when she placed second on the women’s one-meter springboard.

Dreyer, a native of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, registered a score of 570.90 to place herself amongst the top four women who automatically qualify for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. In today’s finals, Dreyer finished second behind University of Kentucky’s Taryn Ignacio. This also marks Dreyer’s second trip to the NCAA Championships in the one-meter, as she placed first her freshman year with a score of 603.65 back on March 12, 2005.

Senior Heather Bounds and freshman Brittany Viola placed ninth and 10th respectively in the women’s finals. Bounds finished with a score of 498.30, while Viola posted a score of 496.65.

Over on the men’s side, senior Derek Starks posted a ninth place finish in the men’s three meter springboard, posting a score of 673.90. Freshman Ruben Ross finished with a score of 648.40 to place 12th in finals.

The Zone B Championship will conclude on Sunday with the platform competitions. The men will dive at 10 a.m., followed by the women at 1 p.m.
