Chapel Hill, N.C. – The University of Miami swimming team wrapped-up their first day of the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships Wednesday evening at the University of North Carolina’s Koury Natatorium. Overall, Miami finished sixth place with 48 points.

The Hurricanes began the day in the 800 freestyle finishing seventh place with a time of 7:32.16 compared to last season’s ACC Championship time of 7:43.65. Miami was led by sophomore Britta Boesing who touched the wall at 1:22.38, followed by freshman Katie Eason at 1:53.46. Fishing out the event was Emerson Davis and Kristen Pomerleau.

In the 200 yard medley Relay, the Hurricanes, was led by senior Ashley Knapp followed by Magda Waszkiewicz, freshman Katie Eason, and Kristen Pomerleau, clocked in at 1:44.20.

The day ended with tournament host North Carolina taking the lead with 72 points. Defending champions Florida State followed with 70 points, while Virginia posted 64 points and Virginia Tech registered 62 points. Rounding out the rest of the field were Maryland (58), Clemson (54), Miami (48), NC State (36), Duke (34), Georgia Tech (32) and Boston College (30)

Competition at the ACC Championship resumes Thursday with preliminaries beginning at 11 a.m. and finals starting at 7 p.m.
