THE MATCHUP:The University of Miami hosts Alcorn State University at the BankUnited Center marking the first time the schools have met on the hardwood. Alcorn State enters the game with an 0-2 record after consecutive loss at the 2006 2K Sports College Hoops Challenge benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer in Austin, Texas. The Braves lost to host Texas, 103-44, in the season opener, then dropped a 68-59 decision to St. Bonaventure in the tournament’s consolation game. Alcorn State has been led this season by 6-2 senior guard Delvin Thompson who has averaged 21.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. He registered 15 points in the loss to Texas and then exploded for 27 points against St. Bonaventure. The only other Brave to score in double figures this season is 6-3 senior guard Clifton Douglass who scored 10 points of the bench against Texas. Douglass ranks second on the team in scoring at 7.0 points per game. Miami opened the season with an impressive 73-50 win over Florida International on Saturday. Four Hurricanes scored in double figures including senior center Anthony King who recorded his ninth career double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Sophomore transfer Jack McClinton, playing in his first game since March 4, 2005 scored 14 points while sophomore forward Jimmy Graham added 10. Freshman forward Dwayne Collins was also impressive in his first collegiate game recording a double-double withh 10 points and 12 rebounds. The UM defense held FIU to 50 points on 32.2 percent shooting from the field. The 50 points were the least allowed by UM in a season opener since 1994. Miami, which struggle scoring in the post last season, got 41 points from its post players against the Golden Panthers.

Senior center Anthony King recorded his ninth career double-double withh 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead four Hurricanes in double-figures as the University of Miami defeated Florida International 73-50 in the season opener for both schools. King was 9-for-12 from the floor and set a career-high in scoring. Miami dominated inside as three post players scored in double figures and out-rebounded FIU 46-30. Miami broke the game open midway through the first half with an 11-2 run and took a 42-24 lead into halftime. FIU was unable to get any closer than 14 points, and trailed by as many as 26 points in the second half.
Sophomore Jimmy Graham scored seven points during the run. He finished with 10 points. Sophomore Jack McClinton, a Siena transfer, made his Hurricane debut scoring 14 points. Freshman Dwayne Collins was also impressive recording 10 points and 12 rebounds. Miami, which led ACC in scoring defense last season, held FIU to just 50 points marking the least allowed in a season opener since 1994. Florida International was led by Elvis Loras’ 15 points off the bench. Kansas transfer Alex Galindo scored 10 points.

The Miami-Alcorn State game is not being televised. The game can be heard on the Hurricane Radio Network, WQAM (560 AM). Joe Zagacki “The Voice of the Hurricanes” will call all the action with Josh Darrow adding analysis. Brian London will serve as studio host. The game will also be broadcast on the University of Miami Student Radio Network, WVUM (90.5 FM).
ON THE COACHES:
Miami head coach Frank Haith is in his third season with the Hurricanes. His record career record is 35-29 (.547) including a 1-0 mark this season. Last season Haith led Miami to an 18-16 record and a second consecutive NIT appearance. Alcorn State head coach Samuel West is in his fourth season as a collegiate head coach, all with the Braves, and has a 26-62 (.295) career record.
MIAMI VERSUS THE SWAC:
Miami game with Alcorn State marks just the fouth time the Hurricanes have faced a team from the Southwest Athletic Conference. Miami is 2-1 all-time against SWAC teams.

Since UM began conference play in 1991-92, the Hurricanes have compiled an 111-52 (.681) record against non-conference opponents, including a 79-17 (.823) mark at home. The Hurricanes are 25-3 (.893) against non-conference opponents at the BankUnited Center.
WINGING IT:
The University of Miami is long and lean this season. In fact, the Hurricanes have three players with wing spans of at least seven feet. In addition, Miami has four other players with wing spans of 6-11. See pdf for full list.
IT’S BEEN A WHILE:
Freshman Dwayne Collins made a memorable debut against Florida International recording 10 points and 12 rebounds. He is the first UM freshman to record a double-double in a Hurricane debut since Lemuel Howard posted 13 points and 10 rebounds against Central Florida on November 28, 1986.
HURRICANES SIGN TWO:
The University of Miami has received two commitments during the November early signing period. Joining the Hurricanes next season will be 6-0 point guard Edwin Rios (Miami Senior High School) and 6-9 forward Julian Gamble (Southern Durham High School).
