Women's Tennis Wrap-Up Their Second Day of the Hurricane Fall Invitational

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team finished their second day of the Hurricane Fall Invitational winning seven matches for the day. Today concluded the final rounds of doubles, while the singles draw will conclude tomorrow.

In the second round of women’s singles in the #1 Draw, freshman Laura Vallverdu defeated Paula Zabala of FIU, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5. She has advanced to the final round, where she will face Lauren Macfarlane of FSU.

Audrey Banada has moved on to the final round in the #2 Draw, winning 6-4, 6-0 in the second round over Florida State’s Jessica Wente. Banada will go up against another Florida State opponent, Carolin Walter in the final round.

Romy Farah was the only Miami player to compete in the #3 Draw as she faced Iowa’s Hillary Mintz in the second round and came out on top to win 6-4, 6-4. She moves ahead to the final round where she will face Marijana Cutuk of FIU.

In the second round of the #4 Draw, Gina Sabatino came away with a defeat over FIU’s Shilla D’Armas, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. Tomorrow she will take on another FIU player, Priscilla Castillo.

The doubles matches wrapped-up today with Audrey Banada and Romy Farah defeating Carol Salge and Ani Mijacika of Clemson in the final round of A doubles, 8-3. In the C doubles draw, Emily Mowrey and her partner Kathi Gerber of Clemson came up short against Marijana Cutuk and Priscilla Castillo of FIU, 8-1.

In the singles #3 backdraw, Caren Seenauth defeated Selma Babic of Clemson, 6-3, 6-3, and will face Katherine Bartnik of FAU tomorrow. Emily Mowrey was defeated by Pia Terol of FAU, 6-1, 7-5 in the #5 backdraw. In the doubles B backdraw, Caren Seenauth and Gina Sabatino defeated Selma Babic and Samantha Eppelsheimer of Clemson, 8-1.

Tomorrow’s tournament will wrap-up with matches beginning at 9:00 a.m.
