RALIEGH, N.C. – Taking all three doubles and all six singles matches, the seventh ranked Hurricanes downed No. 50 NC State 7-0 Sunday afternoon to record their 11th-consecutive victory.
Miami (14-3, 6-0 ACC) opened the day by winning on all three courts against the Wolfpack (12-5, 1-4 ACC).
Highlighting doubles play was UM’s 10th-ranked tandem of Melissa Applebaum and Audra Cohen’s 8-1 win over Barbara Orlay and Alejandra Guerra on court No. 1 and 45th-ranked Monika Dancevic and Audrey Banada’s 8-2 win over Julia Roach and Shona Lee at the No. 2 spot.
In singles, Cohen, who is ranked third nationally, downed No. 123 Lee 7-6, 6-3 in the No. 1 slot to remain perfect on the year at 20-0.
For the second time in as many days, Dancevic upset a nationally ranked player at the No. 2 position. The freshman’s victim this time was NC State’s Orlay, ranked No. 118, who fell 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Applebaum won at the No. 3 spot, defeating Guerra 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 while No. 83 Banada upended Nandita Chandrasekar 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4.
On the No. 5 court, Patricia Starzyk downed Roach 6-3, 6-1 as Caren Seenauth defeated Elin Stahll-Johansson 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.
The Hurricanes return to action Friday, taking on Georgia Tech at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
