<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>ATLANTA, Ga. – Freshman swimmer Christine Zwiegers finished fourth in the 50-freetyle final on the first day of competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational held in the GeorgiaTechAquaticCenter Friday evening. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Zwiegers, who came in fourth in a time of 23.67 in the morning’s prelim, touched the wall in a time of 23.69.
Junior Emerson Davis competed in the C-final of the 50-free and clocked in a time of 24.74 for 20th overall.
The Hurricanes opened the evening’s finals competition by finishing sixth in the 200-freestyle relay. UM’s relay team of Zwiegers, Ashley Knapp, Andrea Hughes and Davis turned in a time of 1:38.54. FloridaState touched first in a time of 1:31.59.
The 500-freestyle followed with junior Tara Erwin came in 19th in a time of 5:06.43. Fellow junior Kristen Lunak turned in a personal best time of 2:12.33 in the 200-Inividual Medley to finish 19th.
The first day of competition closed with the 400-Medley Relay where the Hurricanes’ team of Ashley Knapp, Melinda Hochard, Andrea Hughes and Zwiegers finished fourth with a time of 3:55.20.
16th-ranked FloridaState leads the women’s meet with a score of 363, Rice (175), WKU (172.50), Tech (164), FAU (145.50), Gardner-Webb (83), Miami (81) and New Orleans (28).
The Georgia Tech Invitational will resume with prelims on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. with finals starting at 5:30 p.m. The entire meet can be followed via live stats on www.ramblinwreck.com.
