Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s golf team opens its 2005-06 season at the Cougar Classic, September 12-13, in Charleston, S.C.
The Hurricanes return five letterwinners from last season’s team that placed 13th at the NCAA East Regional Championships including All-ACC selection Josie Shinn (Pinehurst, N.C.).
Shinn, entering her junior season, recorded four top-10 finishes last season including a victory at the Papa John’s Collegiate. She ranked second on the team last season with a 75.9 stroke average.
Also returning is sophomore Hagen Weintraub (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) who posted three top-20 finishes last season as a freshman. She ranked third on the team with a 78.1 stroke average and was the Hurricanes’ top finisher at the 2005 NCAA East Regional.
Junior Tiffany Prats (Williston, Fla.) adds experience to the UM lineup having played in 21 career tournaments. Prats returns after an impressive summer which saw her qualify for match-play at the 2005 US Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship.
The first and second rounds will be played on Monday, September 12, with the third round taking place on Tuesday, September 13.
