Velazquez Garners All-American Honors on Three-Meter

CORAL GABLES, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Fla. – University of Miami diver Miguel Velazquez garnered All-American Honors when he placed fifth on the three-meter springboard with a score of 590.75 at the 2005 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships held at the UniversityAquaticCenter on the campus of the University of Minnesota Friday evening. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

 

Velazquez, a senior, earned his sixth All-American honor of his career. The Mexico City, Mexico native finished ranked first after the morning’s preliminaries with a score of 557.95.

 

Arizona State’s Joona Puhakka won the three-meter title, only a day removed from his first place finish on the one-meter board, with a score of 645.20.

 

Miami sophomore Derek Starks also participated in the event, finishing 20th with a score of 498.15. 

 

The Hurricanes conclude action at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship Saturday with the 10-meter platform competition. Preliminaries are set to begin at 1:00 p.m., with finials slated for 8:00 p.m.
