Miller Wins Pat Bradley Invitational

Miller Wins Pat Bradley Invitational

Oct. 10, 2004

Miami, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami senior Tina Miller (Miami Archbishop Curley Notre Dame) fired a final round four-under-par 68 to come from three strokes back and win the 27th FIU/Pat Bradley Invitational at Doral Golf Resort in Miami, Fla.

Miller (73-72-68–213), who trailed Princeton’s Avery Kiser by three strokes after two rounds, found herself four strokes behind after a three-putt double bogey on the fourth hole. Miller then caught fire birdying three of the next six holes to take a two stroke lead.

“I just wanted to play against the course today and stick to my game plan,” said Miller. “When you trail entering a final round sometimes you can push to hard to try to get even too quickly. I knew there were a lot of holes to play and I didn’t want to get ahead of myself.”

Kiser (71-71-75–217) had been extremely steady the first two rounds posting only two bogies and one double bogie, but struggled recording three bogies during Miller’s decisive run.

“I think Tina was tremendous today,” said head coach Lela Cannon. “She stayed focused and never gave up, even when she fell four strokes back. That says a lot about her mental toughness.”

Miller added two more birdies the rest of the way including an eight foot putt on the final hole to post a career-best three-round score of 213 and clinch her fifth career victory.

“This was a special win for me because it was in Miami and my family and friends were able to be here,” added Miller. “I think this is the first time my Dad has seen me win a college tournament.”

Miami recorded a team score of 914 (313-300-301) to finish second to Princeton which won the team title with a score of 907 (307-302-298).

In addition to Miller, the Hurricanes had three players shoot in the 70’s on Sunday. Sophomore Josie Shinn (Pinehurst, N.C.) recorded a 77 Sunday to finish in 16th-place (81-76-77–234). Freshman Hagen Weintraub (Davie, Fla.) also posted a final round 77 to finish tied for 21st with UM senior Esther Lee (Seoul, South Korea) who shot 79 on Saturday to finish with a three-round total of 235.
