UM's Andrews Wins Three Gold Medals

Athens, Greece (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami senior Dan Andrews (Holiday, Fla.) solidified his status as the world’s top parathlete sprinter last week winning three gold medals and setting two world records at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece.
Andrews, who runs with a prosthetic left leg, won gold medals in the 400-meters, 4×100-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay.
Andrews, the gold medal winner in the 800-meters at the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney, Australia, set a new world record in the 400-meters winning with a time of 51.24 seconds.
He then anchored the 4×400-meter relay of Brian Frasure, Ryan Fann and Raphew Reed Jr. that crushed the Paralympic field winning in a world record time of 3:27.00. The Americans defeated second-place finisher Australia (3:33.55) by over six seconds, and broke the previous world record of 3:32.44 by more than five seconds.
Andrews picked up his third gold medal running the second leg of the Paralympic Champion 4×100-meter relay. The American team of Frasure, Andrews, Casey Tibbs and Reed, Jr. posted a winning time of 43.90 seconds to narrowly defeat France which placed second in a time of 43.94 seconds.
Andrews has now won four Paralympic gold medals and owns a piece of three World Records. The UM senior also holds the world record in the 800-meters (2:07.18) which he set at the 2002 IPC World Championships in Lille, France.
