Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s track and field team moved up six spots to No. 13 in the latest Trackwire 25 rankings released Monday.
The Hurricanes are coming of a strong opening weekend posting three first-place finished and recording four NCAA qualifying marks at the Florida Intercollegiate in Gainesville, FL.
Sophomore All-American Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) took the top spot in the 200 meters and Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ontario) set a Canadian Junior Record in the triple jump to highlight competition at the Florida Intercollgiate in Gainesville, Fla.
Greggs, a four-time All-American, opened the season in impressive fashion winning the 200-meters with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 24.32 seconds.
Freshman Tabia Charles took the top spot in the triple jump with a mark of 13.53 meters mark, nearly out jumping her nearest competitor by one meter. Her mark broke her own Canadian Junior indoor record and automatically quailified her for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Freshman Brenda Faluade (Katy, TX) finished first in the long jump in her first collegiate meet hitting a mark of 6.17 meters in the finals. Faluade finished ahead of teammate Amber Williams (Succasunna, N.J.) who finished second with a jump of 5.97 meters.
Senior Adrienne Moss (Miami Southridge) finished fifth in the shot put with an NCAA provisional mark of 15.62 meters. Freshman Ginou Etienne (Miami Central) was also impressive finishing third in the 400-meters with an NCAA provisional time of 54.41 seconds.
