CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Jim Burt was honored Wednesday as a Verizon second-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Burt is the first Hurricane to be honored as an academic All-American since Jeff Morrison was a three-time first-team selection from 1979-1981. Burt is a two-time selection to the Verizon/CoSIDA All-District III team. The redshirt junior graduated from Miami on May 9 with a degree in finance. He finished his undergraduate degree with a 3.82 grade-point average.

The Allendale, N.J., native is batting .308 on the season for the Hurricanes, which received the NCAA’s eighth national seed. He is second on the team in home runs with a career-high 10 with 39 RBIs.

Miami, which is 39-14-1 on the season, opens NCAA Coral Gables Regional action as the No. 1 seed at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 30th.
