Hurricanes Drop Final Game Against FSU, 12-0

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Miami was unable to find its offense that scored 14 runs last night, as the top-ranked Seminoles beat the 14th-ranked Hurricanes, 12-0, in front of 5,394 fans at Dick Howser Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Hurricanes fall to 29-11-1 on the season and finished the six-game series with FSU with a 1-4-1 record. The Seminoles improve to 38-7-1 on the season. Daniel Davidson picked up the win to improve to 7-0 on the season with 5.1 innings, allowing two hits and no runs.
UM starter Alez Perez (0-2) pitched 2.2 innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits, while walking three in the loss. At the plate, Miami managed only four hits on the afternoon, the last of which was a single from reserve catcher T.J. Hacker for his first career hit.
Perez got knocked around in the first inning, giving up four runs on two doubles, a base hit, a walk and a throwing error.
Florida State added two more runs in the second inning with a two-run home run off the bat of Tony Richie. Perez issued a walk to Stephen Drew with one out and then got Tony McQuade to hit into a fielders choice before Richie hit the 0-1 pitch over the left-field fence.
The Seminoles worked the doubled steal to score their seventh run with Chris Hart trotting home, as Erick San Pedro gunned down Bryan Zech at second base. Aaron Cheesman followed with a single that would chase Perez from the game with Ryan Dixon coming on in relief.
Tony McQuade hit his seventh home run of the season in the fourth inning, as FSU extended its lead to 9-0.
The Hurricanes threatened in the top of the sixth inning, loading the bases with one out on an infield hit from Ryan Braun. FSU was able to get out of the inning with a 1-2-3 double play off the bat of Jim Burt.
Ryan Dixon walked the first two batters of the sixth inning and was replaced by Marcelo Albir on the mound. Albir then gave up back-to-back sacrifice fly balls to give FSU a 12-0 lead.
Danny Figueroa was robbed of a home run on the final out of the eight inning, as McQuade pulled one back at the left-center field wall.
The Hurricanes will return to action next weekend, May 2-4, to face Pace College. Game times are set for 7 p.m. on Friday, 7 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
