Baton Rouge, LA (hurricanesports.com) – Miami sophomore Camilla Hilland (Lommedalen, Norway) will begin competition Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at the NCAA Women’s East Regional Golf Championship being held at the University Golf Club in Baton Rouge, LA.
Hilland, one of three individual at-large selections, is ranked 68th in the nation. She has finished in the top-20 of all nine tournaments this season, including six top-10’s, and victory at the Ryder/Florida Women’s Collegiate Golf Championships. Her victory at the Ryder Championship marked the first time since 1988 (Tracy Kerdyk) that a Hurricane took home the state individual title.
Hilland is the first Hurricane since 1998 to receive an NCAA regional berth.
A total of three regional tournaments will be conducted May 9-11 to determine the field for the NCAA Championship finals, May 21-24, at Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, WA. The other two regional sites include the Central Regional in East Lansing, MI and the West Regional in Stanford, CA.
A total of 324 participants were selected for regional competition. Of those players, 126 will advance to the championship finals. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each region.
