CORAL GABLES, Fla.-Miami’s No. 33-ranked Todd Widom (Coral Springs, Fla.) earns All-American honors after knocking off No. 11 Phillip King of Duke in the second-round of the NCAA Tennis Championships Thursday afternoon in College Station, Texas.

Widom avenged an earlier loss to King, beating him in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

The freshman improves his overall record to 28-6 and becomes the first All-American since Mike Russell during the 1996-97 season.

Widom is the first All-American player under head coach Jay Berger. Berger is in his fifth season at Miami and holds three BIG EAST titles.

Widom will advance to the Sweet 16 facing Nick Rainey of Southern California Friday at Noon.

The winner of the third round will face the winner of the match between UNLV’s Thomas Schneiter and Georgia’s No. 1 seed Matias Boeker.
