May 16, 2002
Junior Megan Cobb, who participates in women’s track and field throwing events, has been selected the December 2001 Academic All-Star after proving herself an all-star both on and off the track.
Cobb, a physical therapy student, has become a team leader in academic as well as athletic achievement. As a sophomore, she competed in the discus, javelin, and hammer events, recording Miami’s top javelin throw with a toss of 31.97m (104-10.50) in Opa Locka, FL. She finished 16th overall at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, ranking third on her team in hammer. She went on to record the season’s best throw (41.6m/136-00.00) at the Hurricane Classic and the top discus throw (32.60m/106-11.00) at the FIU Invitational.
Cobb ranked second on the team in the indoor weight throw as a freshman (9.76m), and a younger Cobb holds her high school record in both the shot put (34’11”) and discus (109’4″). She earned the second team All-Conference honors her senior year.
