Philadelphia, PA (hurricanesports.com) – Miami freshman Lauryn Williams (Rochester, PA) finished third with a time of 11.49 in the 100-meter dash championship at the Penn Relays Carnival in Philadelphia, PA.
Williams, an All-American in the 60-meters during the indoor season and ranked sixth in the nation this outdoor season in the 100-meters, finished behind LSU’s Muna Lee (11.38) and Fana Ashby of Kansas City Community College (11.47). Lee is currently the second ranked collegian in the 100-meters.
Miami’s fifth-ranked 4×400-meter relay of junior Saraque Whittaker (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas), sophomore Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern), junior Jamillah Wade (Philadelphia, PA) and senior Wyllesheia Myrick (Miami Northwestern) finished seventh with a time of 3:38.94 in the 4×400-meter Championship of America. South Carolina, ranked No. 1 in the nation, won the event in a time of 3:29.10.
The Hurricanes return to action May 3-5 at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Storrs, CT. Miami is the defending BIG EAST Champion and has won the conference outdoor title in three of the last four seasons.
