Women’s Track Moves Up To 15th

CORAL GABLES, FL (hurricanesports.com) – Despite an off week, theUniversity of Miami women’s track and field team moved up two spots to No.15 in the Trackwire Top-25 poll. Miami garnered 16 points and is tied withNebraska, Iowa State, Auburn and North Carolina State.

The Hurricanes will compete at the Penn Relays this weekend beforedefending their conference title at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and FieldChampionships, May 3-5, in Storrs, CT.

Senior Wyllesheia Myrick (Miami Northwestern) ranks on the NCAA listin two individual events and two relays. The 2000 BIG EAST Most OutstandingTrack Performer, ranks 12th in the nation in the 100-meters (11.53) and 16thin the 200-meters (23.59), and is a member of UM’s 8th-ranked 4×100-meterrelay (44.57) and 5th-ranked 4×400-meter relay (3:34.21).

The Hurricanes have also been led this season by senior All-AmericanKareen Clarke (Lithonic, GA). The four-time All-American ranks second in thenation in the triple jump (13.62m) and 11th in the nation in the long jump(6.33m).

Freshman Lauryn Williams (Rochester, PA), who earned All-Americahonors in the 60-meters during the indoor season, ranks sixth in the nationin the 100-meters (11.44) while junior Sharianne Lawson (Palm Beach Lakes)has posted the nation’s sixth fastest time the 100-meter hurdles (13.26).

The Hurricanes have also received strong performances from juniorsSaraque Whittaker (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas) and Jamillah Wade(Philadelphia, PA).Whittaker, an NCAA qualifier last season, ranks 19th in the nation in the400-meters (53.31) while Wade, the defending BIG EAST Champion in the400-hurdles, ranks 25st in the nation in the event (58.97).
