Gaulrapp Wins 3,000-Meter Steeplechase In Final Home Meet

Coral Gables, FL (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami senior Jeff Gaulrapp (Baldwinsville, NY) took first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and the 4×100-meter relay cruised to victory at the Miami Gatorade Track and Field Classic held at Cobb Stadium for Soccer, Track and Field in Coral Gables, FL.

Gaulrapp, competing in his final home meet at Miami, won the steeplechase with a time of 9:18.51. Junior Dan Boniface (Seattle, WA) took second with a time of 9:33.71. Both Gaulrapp and Boniface have qualified for the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 3-5, in Storrs, CT.

The 4×100-meter relay of sophomore Willis McGahee (Miami Central), freshman Kelly Jennings (Live Oaks, FL), freshman Tanard Davis and junior Andre Johnson (Miami Senior) recorded a time 40.86 register its first win of the season.

Johnson, a wide receiver on the UM football team and MVP of the Hurricanes’ Rose Bowl win over Nebraska, finished third in the 100-meters with a time of 10.67.

Miami had four Hurricanes record BIG EAST qualifying marks in the pole vault. Senior Aaron Moser (Bonne Terre, MO) was third with a vault of 4.73 meters (15-06.25), sophomore Aaron Bass (Hillsborg, OR) took fifth with a mark of 4.58 meters (15-00.25), freshman Chris Centrich (Hamburg, NY) finished eighth with a height of 4.43 meters (14-06.25), while sophomore Jon Mark (St. Charles, IL) finished ninth with a vault of 4.43 meters (14-06.25).

Miami returns to action April 25-27 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, PA.
