Coral Gables, FL – The University of Miami men’s track and field team will compete this weekend, May 18-19, at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, GA. The event is the final meet before the NCAA Championships, May 30-June 2, in Eugene, OR.

Highlighting the competition for Miami will be the 4×100-meter relay of junior Gus Martin (Miami Northwestern) and seniors Shane Brown (St. Andrews, Jamaica), Daryl Jones (Dallas, TX) and Joseph Mbayen (Paris, France).

The foursome, which won the 2001 BIG EAST championship earlier this season with a BIG EAST record time of 40.40, will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships against some of the toughest competition in the country including No. 2 Tennessee, No. 9 LSU, No. 11 North Carolina A&T, No. 14 Alabama and No. 15 Auburn.

Martin and Jones will also compete as individuals in the 100-meter hurdles and 100-meter dash respectively.

Others competing this weekend for Miami include sophomore Dan Boniface (Seattle, WA) and junior Jeff Gaulrapp (Baldwinsville, NY) in the 3000-meter steeplechase, junior Jabari Ennis (Kingston, Jamaica) in the pole vault and senior Guy Emry (Monument, CO) in the decathlon.
