Women's Basketball Picked 9th In BIG EAST Preseason Poll

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The University of Miami women’s basketball team was picked to finish 9th of the 14 teams in the BIG EAST in the coaches’ preseason poll released Thursday morning at BIG EAST Media Day in Newark, NJ. Miami received 88 votes.

The defending National Champion Connecticut was a unanimous choice to win the conference title. The Huskies received 162 votes, including 13 first-place votes. Rutgers, a Final Four team a year ago, was picked second with 152 points, followed by Notre Dame with 150 points.

Boston College was picked fourth, while Georgetown and Virginia Tech, a newcomer to the BIG EAST this season, tied for fifth.

Connecticut’s Shea Ralph was tabbed as the Preseason Player of the Year, and Husky freshman Diana Taurasi was chosen as the Preseason Rookie of the Year.

Miami plays host to the All Star Girls Report in their first exhibition game of the season on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Knight Sports Complex.
