UM Soccer Plays Host To #16 Portland

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The University of Miami women’s soccer team will try to earn its first win over a ranked opponent this weekend as they play host to No. 16 Portland Friday night at 7 p.m. at Cobb Stadium.

The Hurricanes enter the contest 6-4, while the Pilots are 8-2. UM is 0-2 versus ranked opponents this season and 0-7 all-time.

The Hurricanes fell to BIG EAST opponent #25 Connecticut 6-1 on Sunday, before beating St. John’s 2-1 Friday afternoon. Jennifer Sanchez (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) scored both of the goals for UM in the win over St. John’s, and she assisted in the lone goal for UM in the loss to UConn. Dee Bass (Coral Springs, Fla.) scored the goal for the Hurricanes against UConn.

Bass has been the leading scorer in the last three matches, scoring three goals and one assist totaling seven points.

The Pilots picked up a 4-0 win over Pacific Sunday afternoon. Vanessa Talbott leads UP with six goals scored, three assists and 15 points.

The Hurricanes have out shot their opponents 156 to 100, while the Pilots have out shot their opponents 200 to 66. UP has posted seven shutouts this season.
