Routson Wins National Championship

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Senior All-American Tyce Routson continued the Hurricanes dominance in the diving events at the NCAA Championships by winning the 10-meter platform diving championship in Minneapolis, MN. The first place finish marks the 10th consecutive year that Miami has won at least one diving national championship.
In addition to Routon’s 10-meter victory, he also placed fifth in the 3-meter and seventh in the 1-meter.
Joining Routson were sophomore All-Americans Stefan Ahrens and Imre Lengyel, as well as freshman All-American Kyle Prandi. Ahrens took home second in the 3-meter and third in the 1-meter, while Lengyel brought back a third place finish in the 3-meter, a fourth place finish in the 1-meter and an 11th place finish in the platform event. Prandi tallied third place in the platform, sixth in the 3-meter and 11th in the 1-meter.
Miami head diving coach Randy Ableman was also recognized for his accomplishments, as he was named the 2000 NCAA Diving Coach of the Year for the sixth consecutive year and the ninth time in 12 years. Ableman also received the award in 1999, ’98, ’97, ’96, ’95, ’93, 92, and ’89.
In the overall competition, Miami scored 152 points to finish in 11th, while the University of Texas won the championship with 538 total points.
