Miami Comes Up Short To Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s and women’sswimming and diving teams both experienced defeats at the hands of FloridaState on Saturday. The Hurricane women (0-2) lost 146-87, while the UMmen were defeated by a score of 153-84.

A pair of freshman and a sophomore led the Hurricane women.Freshman Katie Beth Bryant finished first in both the 1- and 3-meterdiving events, while fellow freshman Elaine Schwartz finished first in the200-yard butterfly (2:06.40) and second in the 200-yard IM (2:08.85).Sophomore Emily Spychala placed second in both the 1- and 3-meter divingevents.

The divers once again dominated for the men, as senior TyceRoutson and sophomore Imre Lengyel took first and second in the one-meterdiving event and switched places for the three-meter event with Imretaking first and Tyce taking second. Freshman Javier Wagner also tookhome a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.

Saturday’s meet with the Seminoles served as a precursor for theMiami and Florida State football clash on Saturday in Tallahassee.

Miami will be off until October 23, when the UM women have a meetagainst Florida Atlantic and Tennessee at the Whitten Student Union Poolat the University of Miami.
