Miami Kicks Off Cross Country Season

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami men’s and women’s crosscountry teams will open their 1999 seasons on Saturday, September 4 at theGreentree Invitational at Tropical Park in Miami. The men’s portion willstart at 7:30 a.m. with the women’s race beginning at 8 a.m.
Joining Miami at the event will be Bethune-Cookman, FloridaInternational and Lynn.
The Miami women’s cross country team looks to defend its 1998Greentree title with a strong group of returning runners that ranked as highas eighth in the South Region last season.
The Hurricanes will be led byjunior All-State performer Shannon Sarabyn (Centreville, VA). Sarabyn wasMiami’s top finisher in every meet last season including a first-placefinish at last season’s Greentree Invitational. Sarabyn, who also won theevent as a freshman, is seeking her third straight Greentree title.
The Hurricane men also look to defend their Greentree title from a year ago.Leading the way for the Hurricanes will be senior Nick Gramsky (ChesapeakeBeach, MD). Gramsky, the UM record holder in the 3,000-meters and10,000-meters, looks to improve on his third-place finish at last season’sGreentree Invitiational.
