NCAA Negotiated Resolution #020161

On February 24, 2023 the NCAA Committee on Infractions and the University of Miami announced a Negotiated Resolution regarding case No. 02161.

The institution, head women’s basketball coach and enforcement staff agreed that between April 7 through 13, 2022, the head coach and an assistant women’s basketball coach facilitated an impermissible off-campus contact between a booster and two prospects and their parents that resulted in the booster providing the prospects with an impermissible inducement (e.g., a meal).  Additionally, the head coach violated NCAA publicity legislation when she commented about the prospects to the booster and provided him information about their official visit.  The head coach did not rebut the presumption of responsibility pursuant to bylaw 11.1.1.1.

The head coach served a three-game suspension and the University has been placed on one year of probation from February 24, 2023 through February 23, 2024.  The women’s basketball program also reduced recruiting visit opportunities and communications during the 2022-23 academic year.
