Jeremy Wilk - Cross Country - University of Miami Athletics

Jeremy Wilk is in his fourth year as an assistant track & field and cross country coach at the University of Miami. Since joining the Hurricanes in September 2023, Wilk has played a key role in elevating the program at both the conference and national levels, developing NCAA All-Americans, record holders, and championship qualifiers.

At Miami, Wilk coached Natalie Varela to NCAA Indoor All-American in the 800 meters and a professional contract with Adidas. He has guided UM athletes to NCAA East Preliminary Round appearances across multiple events, including the 800m, 3,000m steeplechase, 5,000m, and 10,000m. His athletes have rewritten the program record books with more than 14 different school records, while also producing numerous All-ACC performances and even European Championship qualifiers. In cross country, he helped lead the program to historic success, including the highest individual NCAA XC Championship finish in school history and the program’s highest regional finish on the men’s side in two decades.

Prior to Miami, Wilk spent seven seasons at Northwood University, including two years as the head track & field and cross country coach. During his tenure, he transformed the Timberwolves into a nationally competitive program, highlighted by the school’s first-ever NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship team qualification and top-25 finish at the Championship. His men’s teams earned four consecutive top-10 regional finishes, multiple individual NCAA qualifiers, and the first XC All-American in program history.

Wilk oversaw a period of significant performance gains at Northwood, with 34 school records broken—31 in distance and middle-distance events—and 43 NCAA provisional marks achieved. His athletes earned three First Team All-America honors, and he was named GLIAC Coaching Staff of the Year during his first season as head coach. The XC/distance crew started out with only 10 total student-athletes (men and women combined) and quickly grew to above 30.

He began his collegiate coaching career at Ashland University, where he started as a volunteer assistant before being promoted to director of operations and assistant coach. During his time with the Eagles, the program produced two national champions in the 800 meters and multiple All-Americans, while the cross country team earned a top-10 finish at the NCAA Division II Championships.

Widely recognized for athlete development, Wilk has coached numerous conference champions, All-Americans, and nationally ranked performers across the NCAA Division I and II levels. His expertise spans the full range of middle-distance and distance events, with a proven ability to guide athletes from high school development to elite collegiate performance.

A former walk-on student-athlete at Grand Valley State University, Wilk graduated as a 2x All-American and outdoor 800m school record holder. He did this while balancing elite academics, earning the Commissioner’s Award (the conference’s highest award) for his performance on the track and in the classroom. He continued training post-collegiately, placing 12th in the 1,000m at the USATF Indoor Championships in 2015.

Wilk holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration (finance and marketing) from Grand Valley State. He is a USATF Level 1 certified coach and has contributed to national coaching education, including being featured in USTFCCCA’s Techniques magazine (May 2026.)
