Brinker, Gamache Join Rowing Staff

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The University of Miami and head rowing coach Robbie Tenenbaum announced today that Becca Brinker and Julia Gamache have been named assistant rowing coaches.

Brinker joins the staff after spending the last two seasons as an assistant rowing coach at Clemson University while Gamache has spent the past year as an intern coach at the University of Washington.

“I am really excited that we were able to add Becca and Julia to our staff here at the University of Miami,” Tenenbaum said.

Brinker, in addition to her experience at Clemson, worked as a volunteer assistant at Ohio State University during the 2004-05 season after lettering there three seasons from 2001-04. As an assistant at Clemson, Brinker coached the first varsity four to a second place finish at the 2006 ACC Championships before leading the first novice eight to second place finishes in both the ACC Championships and the NCAA South Region Championships in 2007.

“Becca rowed and coached with me at Ohio State and she brings both championship experience as a student-athlete and tremendous experience as an assistant coach,” Tenenbaum said. “Becca was a very big part of the Ohio State women’s rowing team and led by example as a four-time scholar athlete.”

In her time at Washington, Gamache coached the third and fourth varsity boats while also assisting the first and second varsity eights at the NCAA Championships this past spring. Gamache also served as an assistant master’s coach of the Conibear Rowing Club in Seattle, Wash. over the past year after coaching for the Everett Rowing Association during the 2005-06 season.

“Julia worked with me last year at the University of Washington and showed great leadership as an assistant coach,” Tenenbaum said. “She also was a leader on the water at her alma matter, Western Washington University, where she helped lead her team to back to back NCAA Division II Championships in 2005 and 2006.”

Brinker’s rowing experience includes first place finishes in the second varsity four at both the Big Ten Championships and South/Central Regionals in 2002. In 2003, Brinker finished first in the first varsity four at the South/Central Regionals before placing fourth at the NCAA Championships that same year.

Gamache was named a first-team All-American by the DII NCAA Coaches Association on three different occasions while at Western Washington. She was also served as the team captain from 2004-2006 and was named the Western Washington Athlete-of-the-Year for the 2005-2006 season.

“I expect Becca and Julia to have an immediate impact on our program,” said Tenenbaum. “I am excited to have both of them with their wealth of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm as part of the Hurricane rowing family.”

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Brinker graduated from The Ohio State University with a Business Administration degree in 2005 while Gamache, a native of Seattle, Wash., earned a degree in Health and Sport Science at Western Washington University in 2006.
