Megan Barnes was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director of Communications in July 2022. She previously served as a director of communications for a year after initially joining the University of Miami as an associate director in September 2019.

In her current role, Barnes oversees the department’s full-time Olympic sport communications staff and serves as the primary communications contact for the Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball and golf programs.

She is responsible for the day-to-day promotion of the men’s basketball and golf programs through social media, MiamiHurricanes.com and traditional media outlets. Barnes plays a heavy role in the digital strategy efforts for both programs, which includes creating content for the website and social media.

During her time at The U, Barnes has also worked with women’s basketball, rowing and men’s tennis programs.

Prior to Miami, Barnes served as the women’s basketball communications contact at Clemson, promoting the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2004. While at Clemson, she spearheaded Amanda Butler’s successful ACC Coach of the Year campaign.

The Wheaton, Ill., native was a member of the Syracuse athletic communications department in 2017-18, working with the women’s soccer, ice hockey and tennis programs as a 10-month post-grad intern.

Barnes got her start in college athletics as a student intern in the Mizzou strategic communications department. She graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri in 2017.
