Luke Bicanic joined the University of Miami Sports Physical Therapy Residency Program in June 2026. Originally from Brisbane, Australia, Luke brings a diverse background in athletics, clinical practice, and research to his residency training.
Luke earned his Bachelor of Science in Natural Science from Mount Aloysius College in 2023, where he was a four-year member of the institution’s NCAA Division III soccer team. He subsequently earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Pittsburgh in December 2025.
During his doctoral training, Luke completed clinical experiences in a variety of sports medicine and orthopedic settings. He also completed a clinical rotation with the University of Cincinnati football team and athletics department, where he gained valuable on- and off-field experience working alongside an interdisciplinary sports medicine team to provide care for Division I collegiate student-athletes.
In addition to his clinical training, Luke served as a research assistant under the mentorship of Dr. Allyn Bove. His scholarly contributions included involvement in multiple research projects encompassing a scoping review, quantitative data analysis, and a meta-analysis. This work led to poster presentations at the 2026 American Physical Therapy Association Combined Sections Meeting (CSM).
Outside of physical therapy, Luke enjoys discovering and rating local coffee shops, maintaining an active lifestyle, meeting new people, and exploring everything Miami has to offer.
