Danny Plasencia -  - University of Miami Athletics

Danny Plasencia joined the University of Miami athletic staff in July 2024 as Associate Athletic Director of Development. He helps manage fundraising efforts and is responsible for securing major gifts.

Plasencia came to Miami from Indiana State, where, as an Assistant Athletic Direct, he helped raise over $8 million for Sycamore Athletics, including a record-breaking year, $4.4 million in 2020-21. He was also the Director of the Sycamore Athletic Fund. He secured ISU’s first-ever ticketing partnership with the Aspire Group, which increased overall ticket sales and revenue across multiple sports, including a 36% increase in men’s basketball from 2022 to 23.

Before Indiana State, Plasencia was Director of Championships and Development at the University of Louisville. He was part of the Cardinal Athletic Fund, where he managed a portfolio of over 100 donors, solicited major gifts, and sold premium club seats and suites. He was key in helping raise funds for two major capital projects –Thornton’s Academic Center and the Expansion of Cardinal Football Stadium. At Louisville, he also coordinated and executed NCAA and ACC Championships events throughout multiple sports, including men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, soccer, field hockey, golf, and cross country. He was the tournament director/manager for over 20 championship events, which included three NCAA National Championships, three ACC Conference Tournaments, and an NCAA men’s basketball Sweet Sixteen.

Plasencia was born and raised in Tampa, Fla., and graduated from Tampa Jesuit High School in 2001. He attended the University of Louisville and played baseball for the Cardinals. After graduating in 2005, he worked briefly at Louisville Athletics’ marketing department before moving to New York City to attend Law School.

Plasencia holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Louisville (05), a Master of Business Administration from the University of Tampa (’08), and a Juris Doctorate from New York Law School (’12). He is a member of the New York and Florida State Bars. Plasencia and his wife Julie reside in Miami with their son Jacob and daughter Isla Rose.
