Lightfoot Named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Miami defensive lineman Marquise Lightfoot was named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week on Monday following his performance in the Hurricanes’ 38-35 win at North Carolina.

Lightfoot finished with seven tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble. His two sacks accounted for 10 yards in losses.

With Miami holding a 31-28 lead in the fourth quarter, Lightfoot stripped North Carolina quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. on a sack. Defensive lineman Justin Scott recovered the fumble at the Tar Heels’ 37-yard line with 5:33 remaining.

The turnover set up a six-play scoring drive capped by Darian Mensah’s 9-yard touchdown pass to Malachi Toney with 2:33 left. The touchdown extended Miami’s lead to 38-28 and provided the winning margin.

Lightfoot accounted for two of Miami’s four sacks as the Hurricanes limited North Carolina to 66 rushing yards on 30 attempts.

Lightfoot has put together a breakout junior season, recording 29 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, two forced fumbles and two pass breakups through eight games. In seven starts, he has already surpassed his previous season totals in tackles, tackles for loss and sacks. His seven sacks are nearly three times the 2.5 he recorded in 15 appearances last season.

Miami travels to South Bend, Ind., on Saturday, Nov. 7, to face Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. eastern time, with live coverage on NBC and WQAM 104.3 FM
