PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Allie Serlenga scored her first goal of the season and goalkeeper Atlee Olofson recorded a clean sheet as the University of Miami soccer team earned a 1-0 road victory over Pittsburgh Saturday night.
With the win, the Hurricanes improved to 8-3-1 overall and 3-2 in ACC play, while Pittsburgh moved to 6-5-2 overall and 0-4-1 in conference action.
The two sides remained scoreless for much of the opening half before Miami broke through in the 43rd minute.
Serlenga found the back of the net off an assist from Ciara Alarcon to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead. The goal marked Serlenga’s first of the season and ultimately stood as the game winner.
Miami carried the 1-0 lead into halftime after the Panthers held a narrow 4-3 advantage in shots during the opening 45 minutes.
Pittsburgh applied pressure throughout the second half, generating seven shots and seven corner kicks, but goalkeeper Atlee Olofson and the Miami defense kept the Panthers off the board.
Olofson recorded two saves after the break as the Hurricanes held on to secure the 1-0 road victory.
Pittsburgh finished with an 11-6 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks, while Miami’s defense limited the Panthers to three shots on goal.
Olofson played all 90 minutes in goal for the Hurricanes, finishing with three saves to record the clean sheet.
Miami returns home Saturday, Oct. 10, to host Wake Forest at Cobb Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. ET in Coral Gables.
