Scheier, Hall lead Canes at Joe Piane Invitational

Zaria Hall landed a spot in the Miami program record books, posting the tenth fastest 5k all-time.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Miami men’s and women’s cross-country teams competed at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, Friday. The women kicked off the meet with the 5K followed by the men’s 8K.

Madeline Scheier was the first finisher for the Hurricanes, posting a time of 17:13.59. The senior holds the all-time program record for 5k, set at the Southern Showcase in 2025, also recording the fourth fastest time in program history, Friday.

Freshman Zaria Hall was the next Miami finisher, also etching her name in the program’s record books. Hall finished the 5K in 17:51.75, the tenth best time in program history.

On the men’s side, freshman John Templeton crossed first for the Hurricanes for the third straight meet. He finished the 8K in 25:06.2.

Jake Rimmel finished next for Miami, finishing in 25:34.2 followed closely by Cason Mitchell (25:36.8).

The Hurricanes will be back in action on Friday, October 16 for their final meet ahead of the ACC Championship. Miami will race at the Joe Handelman ’52 Classic hosted by Princeton. The first race is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
