CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami soccer defender Jessica Kaye has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Defender of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Kaye earned the recognition following a standout defensive performance in Miami’s 0-0 draw against No. 4 Wake Forest Saturday afternoon at Cobb Stadium.
The defender played all 90 minutes, anchoring a Miami back line that held the nationally ranked Demon Deacons scoreless despite the Hurricanes playing with 10 players for more than 52 minutes following a first-half red card.
With Kaye helping lead the defensive effort, Miami limited Wake Forest to eight total shots, including four on goal, while goalkeeper Atlee Olofson recorded four saves to preserve the clean sheet.
The Hurricanes held Wake Forest to just two shots in the opening half and maintained their defensive composure throughout the second period despite the 10 player disadvantage.
The shutout marked a significant defensive performance for Miami against a Wake Forest squad that entered the contest with a 10-1 overall record.
The recognition marks another weekly conference honor for the Hurricanes this season, joining previous ACC Rookie of the Week selections Zoie Fontenot, Vivien Muchuruza, and Madelynn Sadusky.
