CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney was named Atlantic Coast Conference Wide Receiver of the Week following a record-setting performance in the Hurricanes’ 45-6 road win at Stanford, the conference announced Tuesday.

Toney finished with 12 receptions for a program-record 234 receiving yards and three touchdowns, averaging 19.5 yards per catch in Miami’s season-opening victory. The Miami native broke a 42-year-old school record previously held by Eddie Brown, who recorded 220 receiving yards against Boston College in 1984.

Toney was dominant from the start, totaling 10 receptions for 182 yards and two touchdowns in the first half alone. He added another touchdown in the second half and finished with a long reception of 48 yards.

His 234 receiving yards accounted for more than half of Miami’s 401 passing yards on the night, helping the Hurricanes finish with 549 yards of total offense.

The performance marked the first 200-yard receiving game of Toney’s career and established new career highs in receiving yards and touchdown receptions.

Miami returns to action Thursday against Florida A&M at Hard Rock Stadium with live coverage on ACC Network and WQAM 104.3. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m.
