Miami, Fla. – Freshman Madelynn Sadusky scored with six seconds remaining to lift the University of Miami soccer team to a thrilling 1-0 victory over FIU Sunday night at FIU Soccer Stadium.

With the win, the Hurricanes improved to 5-1-1 on the season, while the Panthers dropped to 1-3-3.

Miami controlled the offensive opportunities throughout the match, holding a 23-11 advantage in shots and a 10-3 edge in shots on goal. The Hurricanes also earned 11 corner kicks compared to three for the Panthers.

The Hurricanes applied pressure from the start, recording the first four shots of the contest. Kambryl Armstrong placed a pair of attempts on frame during the opening 21 minutes, but FIU goalkeeper turned away both chances.

Miami continued to create opportunities throughout the opening 45 minutes, outshooting FIU, 11-5, and earning seven corner kicks before the teams entered halftime scoreless.

The Hurricanes maintained the offensive pressure following the break, forcing four saves from the Panthers goalkeeper over the first 18 minutes of the second half.

FIU was issued a red card for denying a goal-scoring opportunity with 13 seconds remaining. Just seven seconds later, Ciara Alarcon connected with Sadusky, who found the back of the net to secure the 1-0 victory for the Hurricanes. The goal marked the first of Sadusky’s collegiate career.

Armstrong led Miami with five shots, placing three on goal, while Allie Serlenga added four attempts. Sadusky registered three shots on goal, including the game-winning strike.

Atlee Olofson played all 90 minutes in goal for Miami, collecting three saves to earn the clean sheet and improve to 5-1-1 on the season.

The Hurricanes return to Coral Gables Friday, Sept. 11, to host SMU in their ACC home opener. Kickoff from Cobb Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
