JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Miami cross country teams began the 2026 campaign Friday, competing at the Florida Intercollegiate Cross-Country Invitational.
Both the women’s and men’s teams claimed fifth place finishes in the first meet of the season.
Madeline Scheier led the way for the Hurricane women, finishing second overall with a 5K time of 17:23.88.
Emma Hencock also finished in the top-ten for Miami, claiming ninth overall after crossing the finish line in 18:05.06.
Freshman Lula Lowrance was the next finisher for the women, finishing 28th overall with an 18:35.87 in her first collegiate race.
Daila Harinck, Maggie Crosslin, Lucia Rodbro, Jessica Chapados, Olivia Denney, and Emma Lewis also competed for the Hurricanes.
On the men’s side, freshman John Templeton recorded the top finish for the Hurricanes, finishing ninth overall with a 15:06.52 5K.
Jake Rimmel finished just outside the top 20, crossing 21st overall with a time of 15:22.70. Michael Brunet was the next Miami finisher, posting a time of 15:33.92.
Cason Mitchell was not far behind, crossing in 15:35.46. Alex Severson, Peter Spellacy, Jayden Falcon, Jake Weakland, and Prescott Noll also raced for Miami.
The Hurricanes will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 18 at the FSU Pre-Regional in Tallahassee, Fla.
